Author Spotlight: Michelle Warren
Michelle Warren is a true believer in the power of women and the importance of having self-worth. Her first book, The Exploration of Her, which was released in December, follows the journey of exploration a group of friends take during a get together. Oh, and by the way, The Exploration of Her is definitely NSFW but it's so very perfect for wine and a fireplace or bubble bath. Let's explore with Michelle for a bit . . .
First, let’s get to know you a little better
Where would you go in a time machine?
About 20 years ago and tell my past self how to live in her authentic self.
Which super power would you like to have? The power to heal others.
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why? Purple. It’s my favorite color and it stands for strength.
What’s your favorite old school jam? I have a list too long for this question.
What TV show can you absolutely not miss? Grey’s anatomy. I even watch the reruns.
If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? Oprah because she has had the opportunity to meet the greats of this life.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be? Somehow She Kept Standing.
Now, on to your writing
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? It wasn’t a choice, I just wrote. I didn’t really understand the sharing and the impact on others until in my early thirties, but writing has always been a part of my life.
What inspires you to write? Life, my kids, air, music, and emotion.
What genre do you write and why?
Erotica, romance, and pro-female stories, because we need to be heard and understood on a new level.
Do you have a set schedule for writing, or are you one of those who write only when they feel inspired? A little of both.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? Me crying at my own stories.
What, according to you, is the hardest thing about writing?
The moments when you are stuck, when the story is there but the words just don’t come as easy.
How do you select the names of your characters? I create the personality and then find a name that matches it.
And just a bit more
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal? A lioness, of course, because she is strong, silent, and regal.
How did it feel when you published your first book? Excited.
Can you tell us about your current projects?
Sure. I have two in process. One is a continuation of the last book, and the second is a new thought process.
Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors? Oh there is not enough room to get me started on my favorite authors. I LOVE TO READ.
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be? Keep writing and get published. Do not be scared.
Any advice you would like to give to aspiring writers? Step out and be bold. It seems scary, but it is exhilarating!!
What does literary success look like to you?
Multiple books, read by many across color lines and across countries.
Thank you, Michelle, for letting us explore with you. A little birdie told us that book two will be released this summer, and we can't wait. To learn more about Michelle, please visit her website at www.michellewarren.net.
